OUR HISTORY

The foundation of Ökten Group of Companies’ mining operations was laid in the 1950s by the late Mr. Hüseyin Ökten. The company’s journey began in Istanbul’s Yeniköy region, within the Lignite Coal Basin, under the banner of Yeniköy Mining Operations.

The group’s roots are deeply intertwined with Mr. Hüseyin Ökten’s early career as a military aircraft pilot and aircraft technician.

Later, he chose to leave his dedicated service and return to his hometown of Siverek in Şanlıurfa.

Determined to address the electricity shortage in his native region, he successfully implemented an innovative project to generate electricity from a mill.

After a period back in Istanbul’s Yeniköy Ağaçlı Village, Then Mr. Ökten’s interest shifted to coal mining.

He purchased a tractor-mounted shovel and embarked on coal extraction, personally transporting the coal by truck and introducing it to the market.

This entrepreneurial mining venture, initiated in the 1950s, expanded steadily through his relentless efforts.

Building on his legacy, our Chairman of the Board, Mr. Kadir Ökten—Hüseyin Ökten’s eldest son further advanced the company’s corporate development by founding Ökten Madencilik Ltd. in 1976. His leadership not only contributed significantly to the proliferation of mining across the country but also set a benchmark for mining investments.

From the extraction of raw ore to the production of the final product, our commitment to professionalism and the development of precise market and sales strategies has enabled us to meet consumer needs with uncompromising quality. Moreover, our continuously evolving business culture has driven the diversification of our investment portfolio, ultimately establishing us as a high-caliber Group Company.
